When a homeowner in Livingston, NJ, approached us about updating their roof and gutters, we were excited to help them achieve their vision. They wanted a modern look that would match the rest of their home, as well as a remedy for their issues with leaks and rot. Our team worked closely with the client to choose materials that would meet their needs and provide a long-lasting solution.
Updating an Older Roof and Fixing Siding and Trim Issues
The biggest challenge of this project was working with an older roof that had several leaks and issues with rot. We decided to install Owens Corning TruDefinitionⓇ shingles in Sierra Gray, which gave the home a clean, modern look while providing excellent protection against the elements. In addition to the roof, we also fixed some issues with the siding and trim of the home. We replaced rotting wood trim with AZEK PVC vinyl trim and replaced a damaged piece of James Hardie plank siding that was causing a leak, along with some new aluminum flashing, painted to match the home. We also replaced a few pieces of fascia trim with AZEK PVC vinyl trim that had been damaged by carpenter bees, as PVC vinyl is pest resistant.
Installing New Gutters and Leaf Guards
To complete the project, we installed 6” seamless aluminum gutters in white and added white Shur Flo leaf guards to prevent debris from accumulating in the gutters. We rerouted some gutters to avoid ice issues, which is a common problem in New Jersey winters. With the new gutters in place, we were able to provide the client with a comprehensive solution that not only updated the look of their home but also provided better protection against water damage.
The Outcome: A Dry and Modern Home
Despite the challenges of this project, we were able to complete the job in just one week. Our client was thrilled with the new look of their home and the increased protection it provided against leaks and water damage. They also appreciated the extra effort we put in when we noticed a fallen tree on their roof and removed it free of charge.
